CHAPTER TWENTY

As BK smashed down Billups, he kept the Dodge Challenger SRT8 Hurst edition at the speed limit. That was until he saw Melody and Carmen walking out of the Arab corner store. Time to show off, he thought with a grin. He hoped it didn't come back to haunt him. With the Lou being on blaze with the ongoing beef between the Northside and Westside, the cops were always on the creep.

He had to floss, though—fuck it—even though he knew his mother would kill him if the one-time jumped down on him and he got into a high-speed chase, since she was the one who rented this car for him. He had a burner and some chronic inside the car too.

BK shot a quick glance around. Seeing no cops in sight, he smashed down on the gas pedal.

The speedometer jumped from 15mph to 50 in a couple seconds as the challenger tore off down Billups.

As he quickly gained closer to the corner the store sat on, he pulled up the emergency brakes and yanked the steering wheel, sending the Dodge’s tires burning around the corner. The Challenger slid to a perfect stop within inches of the curb. He did a burn-out before throwing the gearshift into drive.

"I see you stuntin' hard," Carmen said, seductively eying BK up and down.

"Boy, you’re crazy,” said Melody. “What if the cops had seen you and pulled you over?"

"Man, fuck the police." BK leaned out the window. "You goin’ to Carol's house?"

Melody nodded. “Yeah.”

"Come on, I'm goin' that way."

Without having to be told twice, Carmen raced around to the passenger side and climbed into the backseat. Melody casually strolled around, trying to play it off as if she wasn't as excited as Carmen to ride in the hottest car on the street. BK cranked up the volume of a Yo Gotti single, threw the gearshift into drive and revved up the engine and peeled off in a cloud of burnt tire smoke.

The Challenger sped off down North Market doing fifty.

"How fast this bitch go?" Carmen asked, squirming around the leather seat excitedly.

"Let’s see ...”

Melody suddenly grabbed BK's arm, stopping him from dropping his foot down on the gas pedal. "Boy, no. And Carmen stop encouraging him."

"Shh, we never have any fun …" Carmen mumbled under her breath, flopping back in the seat with her arms over her chest.

"What’chu say?"

"Nothin'," Carmen said with an attitude.

"That's what I thought."

"Girl, you're a mess," BK laughed.

He pulled over into the parking lane, slowing the Challenger down. Before he could come to a complete stop, Melody had the door open and she was climbing out.

"Hold on, Melody."

"What BK?"

"I want you to roll somewhere wit’ me."

"Where?" Melody asked, trying to sound as if she wasn't interesting in riding with him, which she was. She didn't want to go with Carmen to her boyfriend's house and listen to him fuck her brains out.

"You’ll see. Come on," BK said, waving her back into the car.

"Carmen, I'm going to go with him because I know he’s on some bullcrap.
